BRIEF INTRODUCTION

Founded in Beijing in 1960, the China National Orchestra is a national leading traditional music ensemble. It is composed of a large traditional instrument orchestra and folk chorus. It possesses a number of artists with distinguished attainment at home and abroad.

Through the collection of a large quantity of delicate folk tunes for many years, the Chinese national traditional music had developed a school of its own. The presentation of the Ensemble reserves its traditional Chinese form of graceful style. Meanwhile, it brings its characteristics and coordinate with the Chinese contemporary music, the Western Classical music and the folk music of other nations in the world.

Ever since its establishment, the Ensemble had visited many countries and regions including the UK, France, Germany, Denmark, Russia, the United States, Japan and others. In 1993, the Ensemble founded the Asian Orchestra with the Japanese Music Group and the Korean National Orchestra, aiming to promote the originality and interflow of the Asian folk music. Since 1995, the Ensemble took the lead in staging a Chinese folk style Spring Festival concert. In 1997, they were on an invitational tour to the United States touring New York, Washington D. C., Chicago and Los Angeles and had chance to perform with Yo Yo Ma, the world-renowned cellist at the Carnegie Hall in New York. The performance aroused a great sensation among the audience and press. The Ensemble held the Chinese Lunar New Year Concert respectively in 1998 and 1999 at Vienna Golden Hall in Austria and they were a great success. The China Central Television, National Television of Austria and Satellite channel 3 of Europe live broadcasted the performance.

The China National Orchestra performed at UN General Assembly Hall in August 2000, launched an opening for the China's traditional music presenting to the United Stated since then. In September the same year, to accompany the superior visit of China's President Jiang Zemin to the United States, the Orchestra presented performances at famous Lincoln Arts Center in honor of the senior leaders of all nations attending the millennium conference in New York and achieved great success.
