BRIEF INTRODUCTION

Romance of the West Chamber recounts a love story in which the hero and the heroine broke through feudal ethical codes and conventions, and finally got married, expressing the dissatisfaction of people on feudal marital system and their pursuit of true love. The opera is rich with wonderful lines, intricate plots and climaxes, and vivid characters. As one of the classics, it is acclaimed as like 'beauty among the flowers'.

SYNOPSIS
A young scholar, named Zhang Junrui came across Cui Yingying, daughter of a late chancellor, at the Pujiu Monastery and the two fell in love with each other at first sight. But a gang of bandits besieged the monastery as their head coveted Yingying's beauty and wanted to force her to be his wife. The mother of Yingying promised that anyone who succeeded in relieving the siege can marry her daughter.

Zhang defeated the bandits with his wisdom but Yingying's mother broke her promise. Yingying's servant girl, Hong Niang was angry at the decision, and maneuvered to make the dowager to finally agree to marry Yingying to Zhang.
