BRIEF INTRODUCTION

The year 2012 marks the 40th anniversary of normalization of Sino-Japanese diplomatic relations and is celebrated as the "China-Japan Year of Friendly Exchanges.” Partaking the festivity, “Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Normalization of Sino-Japanese Diplomatic Relations--NHK Symphony Orchestra Concert” will be held at the Beijing National Centre for the Performing Arts and Shanghai Oriental Art Center on September 1 and 4. Audience in these cities will be offered a dazzling treat by NHK Symphony Orchestra, conducted by the eminent Tadaaki Otaka in collaboration with Chinese female pianist Sa Chen. This event will mark the orchestra’s first return in 14 years since its China debut in 1998.

Tadaaki Otaka was made the Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1997. In 1999 he was also awarded the Elgar Medal for his authoritative interpretation and outreaching effort on the British composer Edward Elgar. He was referred to by Japanese media as the "Star of Japan" in the realm of orchestra conductors. Hailed by London Classic FM as “one of the brightest performers of her generation", Sa Chen has been delighting audiences across China, Japan, USA, Europe, and many other places around the world.
