Features: After a brilliant early career and an impressive catalogue of award winning recordings, internationally celebrated pianist Huseyin Sermet will performs at Concert Hall of NCPA in Beijing on December 14th.

BRIEF INTRODUCTION

Huseyin Sermet is a Turkish pianist and composer. He is a Doctor Honoris Causa by the Bogazici (1988) and Marmara (1998) universities, and was named a State Artist in 1991. He is Co-President of ADAP (Association of Artists for Peace), based in Paris.

Recent performances have included concerts with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (Lawrence Foster), the Seoul Philharmonic (Hans Graf), the Trondheim Symfoniorkester (Krzysztof Urbański) and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (Sir Roger Norrington). Highlights of the 2013/14 season include returns to Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and Osaka Philharmonic both under Urbanski and Seoul Philharmonic (Michel Plasson). He will also make his debut with National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra under Lan Shui, with whom he has worked previously (Singapore Symphony Orchestra).

Equally active as a composer, Sermet's first major composition Reminiscence 1 was premiered at the Emperi Festival in 1997 and broadcast live by France Musique; Dream and Nightmare followed in 2004 as a commission from the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and in 2006 there followed Sculptures 1 commissioned by is Bank. Most recently his composition Reminisicences II was premiered in Istanbul in May 2012.

A devoted mentor of young talent, and highly regarded for his many appearances in Japan, Sermet was filmed by NHK TV in a series of fifteen televised masterclasses with young pianists broadcast throughout Japan over a period of four months.

Many of Huseyin Sermet's extensive catalogue of recordings for Naive, Harmonia Mundi and Erato have won major international prizes.
