BRIEF INTRODUCTION
The fashion version of Red Rose and White Rose is adapted from Eileen Chang's classical novel Red Rose and White Rose. In the hands of director Tian Qinxin, the love story, which occurs in the old Shanghai, turns into modern love in fashionable style. As the result of the director's virtual dialogue with Eileen Chang for the second time, 2010's fashion version of the Red Rose and White Rose continues the double-role played by the same person in star version, boldly shifts storyline into contemporary society, completely changes the character gender, and closely focuses on urban white-collar workers. Sharp and witty viewpoints and dialogues, rich and diverse performance form, ultramodern stage and costume design help this drama live up to the reputation of fashion version.
SYNOPSIS
It tells about the story between childhood sweethearts, Tong Zhenbao (a working woman born in the 1980s) and Meng Yanli (her classmate in high school). After six years' marriage, they face the inevitable love crisis. In the global economic crisis, Meng Yanli suffers from layoff made by Wang Jierui, President of the Great China. Wang Jierui deeply loves Tong Zhenbao, while Wang Shihong, also a classmate of Tong Zhenbao, is Wang Jierui's wife. As an 'otaku', Meng Yanli meets a net friend dubbed as 'Little Tailor' who is a non-mainstream girl. Erotic feelings disperse to the heart of everyone as the deadly virus...
Quarrels between husbands and wives, career pressures, the collision of life and struggle for survival simultaneously influence everyone's choice. The choice is difficult but painful and cruel but merciless. Although 2010's fashion version of Red Rose and White Rose is entirely different from the novel authored by Eileen Chang in 1944 in terms of characters' gender and the times, the storyline still inevitably follows the context as written in the novel Red Rose and White Rose. Lust and love, family and outside world, growth and numbness, irritation and compromise normally take place...
