BRIEF INTRODUCTION

During the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, southern Shandong Province, including Lincheng and Zaozhuang, falls under Japanese occupation. Subjected to brutal oppression and struggling with hunger and hardship, local residents risk their lives by leaping onto speeding coal trains to seize supplies. These ordinary railway workers and townspeople gradually unite, forming spontaneous resistance groups.

As the war intensifies, the anti-Japanese forces led by the Communist Party of China grow stronger behind enemy lines. LIU Hong returns from a mountain base to his hometown of Zaozhuang, where he secretly gathers fellow villagers under the cover of operating a charcoal factory. Together, they launch surprise attacks on Japanese trading companies, striking at the enemy and arming themselves. LI Zheng comes from the base area with the Party’s instructions on how to formally set up a railway guerrilla as part of the Southern Shandong Military Region of the Eighth Route Army. LIU Hong is appointed as Leader of the Railway Guerrilla and LI Zheng as Political Commissar.

To inspire the local population, undermine enemy morale, and strengthen the Railway Guerrilla's reputation, LIU Hong and LI Zheng lead daring raids on Japanese military supply trains along the Lincheng–Zaozhuang railway. The fighters leap aboard speeding trains, seize weapons, and strike decisive blows against the occupying forces. Their extraordinary courage earns them legendary status throughout the region.

Amid the hardships of war, LIU Hong falls deeply in love with Sister Fanglin, a local working woman. Xiaopo and Meini'er, two young people who have just reached puberty, also lose their pure hearts to each other in their hometown, a land of blood and fire.

The Railway Guerrilla strikes a crushing blow on the Japanese forces. So brutal, the Japanese invader plots to kill WANG Qian, who works in secret for the Railway Guerrilla at the Zaozhuang Railway Station, and then assembles massive forces to encircle and suppress the Railway Guerrilla at the Weishan Lake.

The guerrilla fights a desperate battle to resist the enemy and protect their compatriots. They take up the positions of the fallen and rise to fight at the cost of their blood and life. During the battle, many of the guerrilla fighters get struck by bullets, with Xiaopo and Meinier dying young. With their flesh and blood, LIU Hong, LI Zheng and other fighters erect an immortal monument to the anti-Japanese heroes between heaven and earth.
