BRIEF INTRODUCTION

China National Symphony Orchestra (CNSO)
Originally founded as the Central Philharmonic Orchestra of China in 1956, the China National Symphony Orchestra (CNSO) was restructured and renamed in 1996. Leading the CNSO into the future are Director Guan Xia (Composer), Principal Conductor Michel Plasson, Laureate Conductor Muhai Tang. For almost half a century, the CNSO has introduced Chinese audiences to a vast repertoire of classical, romantic, modern and contemporary orchestral works by both Western and Asian composers. Throughout its history, the CNSO has collaborated with many world famous artists in order to bring excellence to its audiences.


Conductor: Lorin Maazel
For over five decades, Lorin Maazel has been one of the world’s most esteemed and sought-after conductors. In 2010-11, he is completing his fifth and final season as the inaugural Music Director of the opera house in the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia. Music Director of the New York Philharmonic from 2002-2009, he assumes the same post with the Munich Philharmonic at the start of the 2012-13 season. He is also the founder and Artistic Director of a new festival based on his farm property in Virginia, the Castleton Festival, launched to exceptional acclaim in 2009 and expanding its activities nationally and internationally in 2011 and beyond.
