BRIEF INTRODUCTION

The Idle Motion Company comes with “The Vanishing Horizon.” This sell-out show was selected for the British Council Showcase 2011.

This stunning piece of physical theatre uses charming and inventive staging created from battered suitcases, puppets, maps and paper airplanes. Given wings are the female pioneers of aviation and the journeys they took, exploring the freedom they found in flight.

Anna, the young woman, receives a letter in her grandmother’s will. She takes off for South Africa to visit the house of her deceased grandmother and collect her ashes. Meanwhile her boyfriend James is in the UK, recording a series of radio programs revolving around the female pioneers of aviation. Through him we learn of these unconventional and courageous women who took to the skies.

The Idle Motion Company
Formed in 2007, the Idle Motion Company is a physical theatre group based in Oxford. The actors work as an ensemble to create shows from scratch through workshops and improvisation. Its filmic style is highly visual, creating bold theatrical images on stage with creative use of props and movement. There are strong narratives that run throughout, resulting in rounded and dynamic pieces of theatre.
