BRIEF INTRODUCTION

Yang Liping (Dancing Artist)
Crowned as "Peacock Princess" and "Dance Goddess", Yang Liping is a Bai ethnic native of Dali, Yunnan. She joined into Xishuangbanna Song and Dance Ensemble in 1971. She starred in the large-scale ethnic dance drama Peacock Princess which won the First Prize of Performance in Yunnan Province in 1979. In 1986, she created and performed solo Spirit of Peacock which made a name for herself. Spirit of Peacock not only won the First Prize of Creation and ranked the 1st place of Performance in the Second National Dance Competition, but also was staged on Closing Ceremony in the 11th Asian Games in 1990. In 1994, Spirit of Peacock won the Gold Medal of Dance Classics of the Chinese Nation across the 20th Century.


About The Peacock
Due to great success of Love of Peacocks on Spring Festival Gala for Year of the Dragon, Yang Liping's latest masterpiece, i.e., dance drama The Peacock is extremely expected. With the famous dance artist Yang Liping as chief choreographer, The Peacock is produced by Yunnan Yang Liping Art Development Co., Ltd, in which Tim Yip (Winner of Oscar Award for Best Art Design and famous visual artist), Jin Shaogang (Acoustic Effect Designer of Opening Ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games) and Yang Liping jointly present superstar cast.


The story of dance drama The Peacock centers on the eternal themes of life and love, expresses the common feelings of humankind on the stage, and conveys the artists' thinking and perception of art and life in their personal growth process to the audiences. In this drama, 'Peacock' is not only a bird, but also a person, which is a member of sentient beings.


The dance drama The Peacock epitomizes the essence of Yang Liping's dance art in the past four decades and condenses this dance goddess' legendary artistic career, which Results generation dance God exhausted half the skill, the ultimate inquiry of life. The Peacock divides into four chapters, i.e., Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Kind exploration is made for the world through the stage art form. This work closely reviews life and humanity, and projects humanistic feelings with blend of life and art. Each role represents different level in human nature—light and awareness, dedication and sacrifice, fear and greed. These are all commonalities in human life. The weakness of human nature is exposed through painful and complicated tangle of stage roles again and again. However, dedication and love ultimately help the dramatis personae find the answers of life in seasonal cycle. This is not only a story about the peacock, but also a fable about human nature.


Peacock has symbolizes stage incarnation of Yang Liping for a long time. As early as in 1979, she presented dance drama Peacock Princess.
