Features: Hong Kong singer Denise Ho will star as Jia Baoyu in her new stage musical Awakening in Beijing Exhibition Theatre from April 29th to May 1st, which owes its inspiration to the classic Chinese novel Dream of the Red Chamber.

BRIEF INTRODUCTION

A Dream of the Red Chamber (Chinese: 红楼梦)
Composed by Cao Xueqin, is one of China's Four Great Classical Novels. It was composed in the middle of the 18th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is considered to be a masterpiece of Chinese vernacular literature and is generally acknowledged to be a pinnacle of Chinese fiction. "Redology" is the field of study devoted exclusively to this work.

Jia Baoyu (Chinese: 贾宝玉; Meaning: Precious Jade)
Jia Baoyu is the key character about 12 or 13 years old when introduced in the novel of A Dream of the Red Chamber. The adolescent son of this big and powerful family, and born with a piece of luminescent jade in his mouth (the Stone), Baoyu is the heir apparent to the rich family. Frowned on by his strict Confucian father, Baoyu reads Zhuangzi and Xi Xiang Ji rather than the Four Books of classic Chinese education. Baoyu is highly intelligent, but dislikes the fawning bureaucrats that frequent his father's house. A sensitive and compassionate individual, he has a special relationship with many of the women in the house.
