BRIEF INTRODUCTION

The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, called "one of the world's most formidable orchestras" by the Guardian, has toured in Europe, the USA, Japan and the Far East and performed at major music centres and festivals throughout the world.

The celebrated Venezuelan Gustavo Dudamel, born in 1981, started his tenure as the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra's Music Director (succeeding Mario Venzago) in the autumn of 2007. Christian Zacharias and Peter Eotvos are the orchestra's Principal Guest Conductors.

Gustavo Dudamel first met the Gothenburg Symphony conducting a BBC Prom in 2005, and the collaboration was a huge success. A tour to Stockholm, London and Paris in 2007 was met with standing ovations and outstanding reviews. In August 2008 the orchestra with Gustavo Dudamel returned to London for another success at the Proms, during a week long tour to Germany, Scotland and England.
