Features: As one of the best performances of NCPA Dance Festival 2012, the Taiwanese most-famous dance group Cloud Gate 2 will perform at the Drama Theater of NCPA from October 31st through November 1st.

BRIEF INTRODUCTION

In 1998 when Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan celebrated its 25 anniversary, its founder/artistic director Lin Hwai-min, the internationally renowned choreographer, made a wish to form another company, where choreographers can showcase their talents, and young dancers can bring joy of dance to the general public.

Cloud Gate 2 was founded in September, 1999. Two weeks later, the 921 earthquake devastated central Taiwan. In the same week, the company rushed to the quake area, cleared the debris, and made its debut in the hallway of a crumbled elementary school, dancing for the children shocked by the quake. As a tradition, in addition to its concert performances, Cloud Gate 2 has continued to reach out to tens of thousands of people every year, by holding free outdoor performances and through residency programs on campuses and grass-root communities in Taiwan.

After 13 creative years, Cloud Gate 2 now carries a rich repertoire made up by works of four award-winning choreographers: Bulareyaung Pagarlava, acclaimed for his commissioned works for the Martha Graham Dance Company; Huang Yi, one of Dance Magazine's '25 to Watch, 2011'; Wu Kuo-chu, former Artistic Director of Staatstheatre Kassel, Germany; and Cheng Tsung-lung, winner of MASDANZA Choreography Competition, Spain. Their exhilarating works have been raved in Taiwan, Hong Kong and USA.

Cloud Gate 2 made its first US tour in February, 2012. A full-house hit in every city. Night after night during its New York season, the Joyce Theater had to add extra seats into the auditorium but still failed to take in all the people waiting outside the theater. The Ballet-Dance Magazine, New York said, 'This is a company that you will enjoy, fall in love with, and want to see it again.'
