Features: As one of the classical performance of the Beauty of Elegance Kunqu Opera Series 2012, the new version of The Story of Jade Hairpin by Suzhou Kunqu Opera Theatre will stage in Drama theatre of NCPA on November 9th-10th.

BRIEF INTRODUCTION

The new version of The Story of Jade Hairpin, a kind of Kunqu Opera, premiered in 2008, is created by Gao Lian, a dramatist of the Ming Dynasty. Cultural opera elites from Taiwan and mainland are convened by Suzhou Kunqu Opera Theatre of Jiangsu Province to co-create the new one after the youth version of Peony Pavilion. The new version continues to use the creators in chief of the youth version; The Jade Hairpin is selected into Rescue, Protection and Support Project of national Kunqu Opera art in the year of 2007.

The new version of The Story of Jade Hairpin combined with the characteristics of lyric and poetic expression, symbolization and minimums. Flowing cooperation of calligraphy, painting and Kunqu Opera is the biggest highlight of stage design. A painting of word and a drawing of a picture are the main expression of the whole stage space. Matching with grey contracted floor, side curtain, elegant and clear feeling not only hints religious background story of The Jade Hairpin, but also leaves the audiences a biggest space to experience.

SYNOPSIS
A scholar called Pan Bizheng, lives away from home in a privet temple where his aunt lived. He meets Taoist nun Chen Miaochang and deeply admires her. On a bright moon night, he hears music and finds Miaochang playing Qin. Pan then flirts with Chen through the melody of Qin. Although Miaochang is pining for love, she pretends to refuse for rear of restrictions and fetters in general. But the love for each other makes them a complete meeting of minds...
