BRIEF INTRODUCTION

Our Jing Ke is another masterpiece produced by Beijing People's Art Theatre after the Wotou Club. Although the story is known to all in China and the characters and historical facts are basically faithful to the original work, Mo Yan makes bold guess about the motivation of the behaviors of Jing Ke. The drama is focused on the mentality of winning instant fane and the scold and wandering due to the mentality instead of the avatar of chivalrous spirit. The play makes every effort to let history shine the reality, in a bid to awaken audience to the 'Jing Ke' in their inner hearts. Director Ren Ming also says the key is not 'Jing Ke', but 'we', hoping that through the historical theme, the audience can meditate about own life or fate.

Our Jing Ke makes dramatic imagination of Jing Ke Assassinating the King of Qin, interpreting the failure of assassination as a planned performance of the opportunist. Mo Yan transforms the illusion into the reality in the real world and weaves a new historical story with modern perspective, and let the audience looks into themselves in the historical story; it may be said as history shining the reality.

In this drama, there is no a bad man. The characters in the drama are the people around us or ourselves. The criticizing to others must base on self criticism. We call superiors; in fact we hope to perfect our own heart. -- By Mo Yan, playwright
