BRIEF INTRODUCTION
The Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg is Salzburg’s orchestra for symphonies, festivals and operas. It was founded in 1841 by Mozart’s sons Franz Xaver and Karl Thomas and Mozart’s widow Constanze. The Principal Conductor of the Mozarteum Orchestra is Ivor Bolton.
The Mozarteum Orchestra is focused on contemporary interpretations of Viennese classical music and has furthermore an extensive modern and romantic repertoire. Whether performing its own concert series "Sunday Matinee" and "Thursday Concerts", playing at Mozart Week or at the Salzburg Festival, as opera orchestra for the Salzburg State Theater or as guest orchestra touring from Vienna to Tokyo - the Mozarteum Orchestra enchants its audience all around the world with unique musical experiences.
The Mozarteum Orchestra consists of 91 musicians and has already been conducted by several prominent guest conductors such as Mark Giovanni Antonini, Marc Minkowski, Yannick Nezet-Seguin, Mark Elder, Frans Bruggen, Andris Nelsons or Mark Wigglesworth. Since 2011 Trevor Pinnock is deepening his collaboration with the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg as its First Guest Conductor.
Working with young fans of music has always been a matter of special interest to the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg. Since 2011 the orchestra does an annual sponsorship for school classes to let students and pupils experience the fascination of classical music by attending interactive workshops, orchestra rehearsals and school concerts.
