BRIEF INTRODUCTION
International Music Master, Tan Dun, together with United Nations Goodwill Ambassador and famous singer Dadawa; Chinese Golden Bell Awards winner, famous young erhu artist Tan Wei and China Broadcasting Orchestra’s performance side by side in the National Grand Theatre is undoubtedly one of the major cultural highlights in Beijing. This time fans will have the honor to witness the debut of the erhu concerto Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in China, which won an Academy Award for original music, in addition, fans will for the first time appreciate Dadawa's singing of the songs in bird language as well as Vocal Concerto, improvised dialogue between the hundred-people choir with the 12 birds. This time, Tan Dun will use the sign language gestures to command the entire orchestra to improvise melody and rhythm of 12 birds (meaning the singing of the 12 kinds of solar terms and the Lunar New Year) through the collision and express rhyme of Nature requiem with environmental protection implications.
Tan said: the prosperity of folk music and the folk music orchestras certainly has to keep up with the contemporary life and integrate into the world culture and challenge the world, as well as to be challenged by contemporary life, only in this way can China's national orchestra have a huge cultural impact and cultural heritage. The performances this time by Tan Dun and China Broadcasting Orchestra at the NCPA will no doubt give the audience an impact both in cultural heritage and in auditory experience of music. The music to be played will be bold and enchanting, as well as suitable for all tastes. Either the general audience or senior music fans can enjoy their need to challenge or to be challenged. We look forward to the coming of the National Centre for the Performing Arts Music Festival.
