BRIEF INTRODUCTION

The Placido Domingo's Operalia, The World Opera Competition was initiated by Mr. Placido Domingo, one of the great three tenors in the world in 1993. This year is the twentieth event co-hosted by NCPA and Operalia USA, Inc, the organizing committee. Rolex, the Swiss watch has also worked with the competition for over a decade. It aims to scout opera rookie and enable singers from around the world to show their talents in front of the most distinguished judges and performance managers.

Although the headquarter of the The World Opera Competition is Paris, France, the contest has been held in different cities across the world annually in turns, including Madrid, Tokyo, Hamburg, Milan, Washington and Los Angeles. In Early June, forty outstanding young singers will gather in Beijing for the primary election, through which 20 players will be shortlisted as semi-finals. Afterwards, ten players will be finalized. A gala concert will be held as an awards show in which Mr. Placido Domingo will personally take the baton.

The participants of the competition not only have opportunities to win the ranking and bonus, but also contribute to their carriers greatly, Ainhoa Arteta, Joseph Calleja, Jose Cura, Joyce DiDontao, Giuseppe Filianoti, Elizabeth Futral, Joseph Kaiser, Inva Mula, Eric Owens, Erwin Schrott, Nina Stemme, Ludovic Tezier, Rolando Villazon, Sonya Yoncheba, to name a few. Many award-winners have become dazzling stars on the opera stage worldwide. Chinese vocalists He Hui, Liao Changyong and Sun Xiuwei have been brilliant participants before.
